Types of grapes in wine – Kerner, produced on their estate, organically
Characteristics of wine – light, fruity, slightly sweet, very refreshing
Look – clear, pale gold
Smell – citrusy, floral, tropical fruit
Taste –  citrus, particularly grapefruit
Finish – delicate, doesn’t linger over- long
Food Pairing – pairs well with spicy foods, e.g. curries, Asian cuisine, anything spicy
                   – we served Chinese spring rolls and sharp Cheddar with it.
A perfect summer patio wine, (now that summer’s almost over)

Region wine is produced: Tuscan region in the Tuscan hills outside of Florence, Italy

Types of grapes in wine: Sangiovese Grapes

Characteristics of wine

Luscious wine, well-balanced and firmly structured with a delicate bouquet.

Look: Deep ruby red hue

Smell: Scents of cloves, cherries, red plum, strawberry, fig, floral, cinnamon, leather and tobacco

Taste: Fresh fruity flavour of strawberry with a little spiciness, sour red cherries with tea leaf notes

Finish: Long-lingering finish

Food Pairing: Imagine a warm summer evening under the Tuscany stars, a small patio restaurant, red and white checked tablecloth, a glass of ruby, red wine and you’re served with cherry red tomatoes, a delicious cheese and spinach ravioli with Risotto Balls and Antipasto Salad

Characteristics of wine

The wine opens up to delicate aromas of peach skin fuzz, fresh pineapples, gingersnap and layers of white peach. The mouth is characterized by its fresh, full and creamy texture. The barrel-matured Viognier (Vee-on-yay) weight compliments the ripe tropical fruits, leading to a long, savory aftertaste.

Look:  Golden

Smell – Blackberry, ripe plum, tobacco, vanilla

Taste – Ripe black fruits, soft velvety texture, savory spices

Finish – Lingering after-taste, complex flavors, long finish

Food Pairing – Beef roast, beef steak, venison stew, lamb chops, with balsamic reduction, lentil soup, hearty bean dishes, sharp cheeses, almonds, walnuts, dark chocolate, dark fruit cake.

Characteristics of wine

Look – Clear to light yellow, like “hay” light bodied,

Smell – Green apples, melon, tropical fruits,

Taste – Apple, melon, peach

Finish – medium and satisfying, lasting freshness

Food Pairing – Chardonnay easily pairs with just about anything. Steak, fish, chicken, pasta, cheeses and soft fruits.  At the meeting we paired it with Triscuits with Goat cheese, pesto, roasted red pepper and soft fruits.
Comments from club members – Goat cheese cracker was something not tried before.  They enjoyed the soft fruit taste with the wine, it seemed to make the wine sparkle.
